Anu Halmesmaa, a graduate from the Academy of Fine Arts, is a Finnish artist who works mainly with sculptures and installations. Her art has been exhibited in galleries all over Finland. She uses art as a tool to try to defeat her fears by achieving the impossible: finding The Answer to everything. Her main goal in art and life is to grow stronger and become a more aware human being, with or without the right answers. Halmesmaa’s paper bugs are cut from old books, hand-made art prints and fashion magazines. They celebrate the tiny complex creatures that live around us and create a balance in our ecosystem.
“The insects are upraised with Fiskars scissors in my hands. My scissors are like a magic wand that gives them life.”
